Digital Signage, Interactive Wayfinding, & Custom Mobile App Maximize User Experience & Content Management for Southeast’s Largest Convention Center
Tasked with seeking a solution to help guests navigate one of the largest convention centers in America, Information Technology Manager Michael Distler, turned to 22Miles to satisfy the complex goals OCCC’s advisory board conveyed to his team.
Helping guests navigate the sprawling facility and it’s robust events schedule quickly, while simultaneously empowering staff to easily update and communicate information on a large-scale facility-wide basis required a multi-faceted solution. The combination of facility-wide digital signage, two types of interactive wayfinding kiosks, and a custom mobile app with mobile phone screen control placed the convention center in rare company among the most technologically evolved convention centers operating.
Interactive Wayfinding
22Miles 3D Interactive Wayfinding was installed on a series of kiosks of vertical and landscape kiosks, which included Ungerboeck integration for facilitate an comprehensive events feed that automates information on all shows and events in real-time to all displays. The ADA compliant wayfinding provides a virtual 3D mapping experience with turn-by-turn directions to any destination or event in the facility. The system also grants access to backend data analytics to inform OCCC’s IT dept on screen touches, wayfinding destinations and usage, and other helpful user information.

Digital Signage
Orange County Convention Center installed of over one hundred digital menu display boards, and 60 plus columnar mounted screens strategically positioned throughout the facility. Powered by the 22MILES digital signage content management system, Publisher Pro, Orange County Convention Center’s IT staff and other employees can easily customize and push content to all of the screens as needed.
“The menu screens process greatly improved, as in the past we had food service vendors basically running around from food court to food court with a flash drive to manually update signs. Mobile App
OCCC’s mobile app allows users to enjoy a customized mobile experience tailored to the convention center’s vision for guest experience, on their own cell phone. This enables a safer and more personalized interaction that grants greater peace of mind in the post-pandemic world, while providing the facility another way to create a unique user journey.
Additionally, 22Miles Secure mobile control empowers conference center guests to approach a kiosk, scan a QR code, and instantly control any kiosk from a mobile web browser, with no application to download or install.
A Scalable Solution for Convention Centers
OCCC’s IT director wants to add more screens and kiosks in the future as the facilities needs grow. Currently Orange County Convention Center has:

“Currently the IT team keeps track of number of touches and clicks, providing management reports so they can see what’s being used, and to inform where to place the kiosks and displays. Kiosks are for more informational, while the column signs are used to intersperse advertisements. For consumer events like car shows, basketball tournaments, etc, the kiosks became a go-to product during these events, because a show organizer doesn’t want to spend more money on printed materials and static signs.”
